O mist shrouded Isle of Avalon You have been a long time gone Whose tall inspiring chapel roof Covers the passionate seeker of the truth O Arthur, you and yours sought the grail A quest that could not, must not fail Your hand never held, ever to touch it’s message was in your heart, too much O Arthur, when will you return Truth awakened like the rising sun Your famed sword held high Banishing evil and its lie O Gwenivere, betrayer of the man Yet betrayal was not your plan Love crept up and tore you asunder Yet you were never any man’s plunder O Lancelot, love blinded fool You were never another’s tool Abandoning, becoming abandoned too Yet at the end proved yourself Friend and True O Merlin, mighty man of magic Could not stop the end so tragic Man of wisdom, you knew the way Realising painfully, you couldn’t stay O Arthur, lying in state Man's great need to await Life thrusting in your veins At your call the evil tamed O Arthur, are you simply a dream Hero or man, who has seen? Overcoming that insidious fear within A mortal whose life will never dim John
