A Toddler’s View

 

Would you believe it, I can stand on my feet?

and I have got this walking thing really quite neat.

Oh, deary me, I am back on the floor and not so tall

as I resort to knees and elbows when I crawl.

 

My Mummy tells me now that filling my nappy* is naughty

and that I need to learn to use the horrible potty.

It is plastic and hard and when I use it there is a smell

the big people certainly don’t use it as far as I can tell!

 

My Daddy likes to lift me and throw me in the air,

Its great fun yet it gives Mummy a real big scare.

I love to play with my toys which I sometimes throw,

and Mummy gets real angry if I try to chew them you know!

 

I get to lie in nice warm water called a bath,

then I get dried and tickled which makes me laugh.

something called teeth make my gums tingle and sore

then Mummy rubs them with something nice and I want more.

 

I now sleep in a cot more often than nought,

unless my ‘unsettled’ tears my Mummy bought!

Then to lie on her chest and sleep is a real delight,

even Daddy rolls over and does not fight.

 

Mummy and Daddy often take me for a ‘walk’,

and I sit in my buggy whilst passing adults talk.

Sometimes we travel out in the bus or car

and I am always strapped in, no matter how near or far.

 

I have been going to a nursery where I get to play

but I have to share toys with others and get no say.

It is always noisy and busy until it is time to go home,

then I find it quiet and strange to be all alone.

 

I heard Mummy and Daddy talking about another Baby

and I hope to GOD that it is just a maybe!

The very thought of another feels like hell,

‘cause I like being the only one and treated so well!

A Baby’s Life

 

It is so warm and cosy in here,

and I know only love and never fear!

I don’t know hunger, thirst or pain,

and everything is always just the same!

 

Holy Sxxt, HELP, what is going on,

I feel a push and pull, I am being drawn

into what or where I do not know,

so much for my fleeting inner glow.

 

What a surprise, I have eyes to see

and I realize now there is them and me.

Heavens above, I have a voice too,

tears and screams, WOW, this is what I do!

 

I see a cord and feel better, doubting no more

I am still connected to the good I felt before.

WAIT, they are cutting it, I am alone it’s true

more tears and screams, YES, this is what I do!

 

I realize a feeling I have never felt before,

It is not pain and I am not sore.

I feel a sensation, do I need the loo?

louder tears and screams, YES, this is what I do!

 

Now I feel empty and depleted for sure,

I have no idea if there is even a cure.

Wait, what is that thing risen before my eyes,

who knew I’d like suckling amidst delighted sighs!

 

I have a MOTHER, she whispers in my ear

that she loves me completely, to have no fear!

Wait! Who is this monster, reaching slowly for me?

It turns out it’s my father that I see.

 

When I am hungry, tired or filled my nappy*

I know how to make myself ever so happy.

It is something I have learned to alert my crew,

YES! Tears and screams are what I do!

 

Yet I know that when I laugh and gurgle too,

that it brings smiles to those who love me true.

They love to watch as I do my thing

and when I tire, for me, they love to sing.

Serenity in Pregnancy

 

Serenity in Pregnancy

 

I love the feel of wonderful new life within,

and nothing can my joy filled excitement dim.

I work on me being peaceful and calm,

so that Baby feels me as a soothing balm.

In cultivating that wonderful peace within,

I find that without effort, stress cannot win.

Through stillness and peace, I then feel serenity’s touch,

a welcome and wonderful feeling which is ne’er too much.

Through serenity I understand the importance of simplicity,

and through simplicity I nourish and cherish my serenity.
